Jose Benavidez Sr, father and coach of newly-crowned WBC bantamweight champion David Benavidez, commented on Dmitry Bivol's decision to vacate the belt that went to his son without a fight.
"It's a surprise. I didn't think Bivol would vacate the title in this way. We wanted to fight Bivol and then we planned to fight Zurdo Ramirez.
Let Beterbiev and Bivol have a trilogy and then we'll fight the winner or loser. Meanwhile, the fights against Callum Smith and Anthony Yarde are also tough fights. Those are not easy fights. Right now we need to focus on what's in front of us and then we'll focus on the next fight," Benavides Sr. said.
Recall that Bivol decided to give up the WBC title for a third fight against Artur Beterbiev.
