Tyson Fury has made some surprising announcements, but fans aren't buying it. The heavyweight boxer claimed he's retiring and starting a "dry April" on April 1st, following his losses to Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury had a chance to end his career as a champion. Instead, he lost twice to Usyk, who's seen as one of the toughest heavyweights in recent years. Fury insisted he won both fights, but his claims didn't sit well with the public.
On Tuesday, Fury posted on Instagram: "The Gypsy King is back and I have a license to thrill." The James Bond-themed post got mixed reactions from fans who remembered it was April Fools' Day.
Fury didn't stop there. He also shared an Instagram story about his new sobriety plan:
"April 1st. Today is the first day I'm doing dry April. Not that I'm a massive drinker anyway. [Have] a beer here and again. Gonna do dry April, who's joining me? Let me know."
Fans raised their eyebrows at this claim. Fury has struggled with drinking in the past, even collapsing outside a bar last year. He now says he's a "lightweight" drinker compared to before.
Fury's retirement announcement isn't a first. He's made similar claims in the past without following through. For now, he's officially retired until we hear otherwise.
Whether Fury's really hanging up his gloves or giving up alcohol for a month, one thing's for sure: fans will need more than an April 1st announcement to believe it.
