WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed in an interview with Sky Sports that he will not require a mandatory defense for interim titleholder Agit Cabayel (26-0, 18 KOs) against full heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) at this time.
The World Boxing Council will give Usyk time for a unification fight with Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs), while Suleiman has other offers for Cabayel.
"The interim champion can defend his belt. There are other big fights waiting for him on the horizon - with Joshua, Wilder, maybe even Fury. So many possible great options. We will support such initiatives, because we want big fights," said the WBC president.
