Gervonta Davis will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach in March 2024. The fight was originally set for December but got pushed back three months.
'Tank' Davis, who holds a perfect 30-0 record, last fought in June. He faced Frank Martin in Las Vegas and won by knockout in the eighth round. The fight was competitive until Davis produced his usual explosive power to earn the stoppage.
Roach will move up from super-featherweight for the showdown. He's confident he can pull off the upset and has big plans for the fight. In an interview with TMZ Sports, Roach said:
"I anticipate it to be Fight of the Year. For all those who don't know, I can bully. When I'm in there I'm in my zone. I'm in my jam. I'm going to surprise a lot of people and shock a lot of people when I win."
Roach isn't just aiming for a win - he wants to get a stoppage. He added:
"I hope [to knock Tank out]. Who doesn't want to win by knockout? I'm going to be training for it. No matter how it goes. If it goes 12, if it goes 10, if it goes 8, if it goes 1, I'll be training to make sure I can knock him out in any round."
Davis has a target on his back in the lightweight division. Unbeaten Keyshawn Davis also wants a piece of the action and hopes to face 'Tank' in 2025.
