Frank Martin felt the full force of Gervonta Davis' power in their WBA lightweight title fight. The bout took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last June, ending with Davis scoring a knockout in the eighth round.
Martin recently spoke about his experience in the ring with 'Tank'. He told Fight Hub TV:
"He's got power. He does a great job at landing the big shot. He knows how to land that shot and hit guys on the button to get them out of there. He's an accurate puncher and knows how to land that shot."
The fight was close until the stoppage. The judges had only one point separating the two fighters on the scorecards. But a big left hook from Davis sent Martin to the canvas, ending the fight. This win extended Davis' unbeaten record to 30-0, with 28 of those wins coming by knockout.
Davis has made a habit of stopping his opponents. He's put away notable names like Ryan Garcia, Leo Santa Cruz, and Rolly Romero. His power has become his calling card in the ring.
'Tank' will defend his WBA lightweight title again on Friday, December 14th. He'll face Lamont Roach at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Roach, the current WBA super-featherweight champion, will step up from 130lbs for this fight.
Shakur Stevenson, the WBC lightweight champion, has weighed in on the upcoming match-up. He's given a surprising prediction for the showdown.
