Daniel Dubois knocked out Anthony Joshua at Wembley to keep his IBF world heavyweight title. The fight ended in the fifth round, with Dubois dominating from the start.
Joshua hit the canvas three times before the final blow in the fifth. The upset shocked fans and experts alike, as Dubois was a heavy underdog going into the fight.
Malik Scott, Deontay Wilder's trainer, watched the fight from ringside. He shared his thoughts with Boxing News after the match.
"I thought AJ would win between four and eight rounds. But his jab defence was awful. He got hit with a jab in the first few seconds of the first round. Dubois showed up in grand fashion. His onslaught from the double jab was impressive. It was just a matter of time before AJ got caught."
Scott praised Dubois's coach, Don Charles, for his work with the fighter. He also commented on Joshua's future in boxing.
"AJ's bounced back before. He failed to become a three-time heavyweight champion this time, but his dream isn't over. There's still a possibility he could bounce back again."
When asked about Deontay Wilder's plans, Scott said:
"Fighting is in Deontay's heart, it's something that he wants to do. We'll see what 2025 looks like. He's suffered back-to-back defeats, but I'm confident we'll see Wilder back in the ring next year."
Scott didn't rule out a potential fight between Joshua and Wilder. He noted that both fighters are in the "last chance saloon" of their careers. They once controlled all the belts in boxing's top division. On the possibility of them facing each other, Scott simply said, "You just never know."
