Ryan Garcia's Kryptonite? De La Hoya Reveals Unbeatable Foe: "A Different Level"

Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia put on a show that left fans wanting more. Their April 2023 bout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas drew more than 20,000 spectators and 1.2 million pay-per-view buys in ...

Davis, the WBA Lightweight World Champion, won by stoppage in the seventh round. Garcia touched the canvas in the second round and again in the seventh, failing to beat the count after a body shot.

Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia's promoter, shared his thoughts on the fight during a Club Shay Shay interview:

"Does he beat Tank if he doesn't have the rehydration clause? I don't know. I just do not know. Tank is very skilful, he's a beast, he knows how to figure you out, but one thing about Tank, which I love and this is why he's gonna be great, he fights. And when you fight, you're gonna get hit, and you might get knocked out. That's the beauty of Tank – he fights and that's why they love him. That's a perfect example. Tank Davis is a star."

De La Hoya praised Davis for his aggressive style and ability to figure out opponents. These qualities have made Davis a fan favorite and a rising star in the sport.

Davis will get back in the ring soon. He's set to headline a PBC on Prime show in November, though his opponent hasn't been confirmed yet.

Garcia's career has taken a different turn. The New York State Athletic Commission suspended him until at least April 2025 for a doping offense. His win against Devin Haney has been changed to a no contest.

Fans might want to see Davis and Garcia fight again, given how successful their first bout was. The match made the top five gates in Las Vegas history. But a rematch looks unlikely for now. The fighters are in different weight classes, and Garcia's suspension puts any immediate plans on hold.
