Respected Boxing Figure Advises Deontay Wilder on Career Future: "It's a Tough Decision"

Deontay Wilder might hang up his gloves soon. The former heavyweight champ's recent fights have people talking about his future in boxing.

Wilder used to be a force in the heavyweight division. For five years, he knocked out every opponent he faced until 2018. His right hand was so powerful, it earned him the nickname "The Bronze Bomber."

But things changed after his draw with Tyson Fury in 2018. Wilder lost twice to Fury by stoppage in the following years. He tried to bounce back with a quick win over Robert Helens, but his last two fights have been tough.

In December 2023, Joseph Parker beat Wilder by a wide margin on points. Then, in March 2024, Zhileh Zhang stopped Wilder in just five rounds. During that fight, Wilder didn't seem to want to throw his big punches.

Robert Garcia, who once trained Anthony Joshua, thinks it's time for Wilder to call it quits. In an interview, Garcia said:

"It sucks to see somebody go out like that but it's part of boxing. I think he should probably retire right now but he had a great career, man. Became a champion, made a lot of money, that's what fighters are in it for."

Garcia added that Wilder got into boxing to provide for his daughter. He said:

"Most fighters have to continue to fighting, I'm not saying Wilder is one of the cases, I think Wilder got into boxing to provide for his little girl. Even in his last fight, he still made a huge payday but I don't blame him. He's probably made enough to be secure with his family so I think it's maybe time to hang them up."

There's talk that Derek Chisora might give Wilder one more shot at a big fight. But with his recent performances, many wonder if Wilder will take it or decide to end his career on his own terms.
