Shelestyuk: "At lightweight, Davis looks head and shoulders above everyone else"

Ukrainian boxer Taras Shelestyuk (19-0-1, 11 KOs) commented on the victory of American Gervonta Davis (30-0-0, 28 KOs) over compatriot Frank Martin (18-1, 12) in the fight for the WBA lightweight title in an interview with the YouTube channel "Tyke Mason".

- Before the knockout in the 8th round, did you get the feeling that everything was going according to plan for Davis' team and himself?

- From the first round it was already clear there. I was also asked before the fight prediction. The prediction here is that Davis will win this fight. I haven't seen Martin before, I watched a couple of his highlights, but not bad, very cool. He started throwing away the first two or three rounds. He was throwing lefts, his straight is cool, fast and sharp.

But we've all seen Davis' fights, when 2-3 rounds in, he gets involved, reads his opponent. He's like Mayweather did in his time, just much stronger. And when he read, you could already watch after the rounds, when he was calmly joking, smiling. He felt like he was in control of the fight. Especially after 2-3 rounds, when he already started hitting.

Martin is a very interesting, promising fighter. I think he will make some noise in the division. He's very fast, sharp, his left is very good. Davis is just a different caliber of fighter. When Martin had already missed a few punches, the legs started stopping and that was it. Davis found his game, his range, and the knockout was a beauty.

Davis is a top boxer, and in this category, where now Davis, Shakur Stevenson, if I'm not mistaken, Lomachenko and Berinchik. But Davis looks a head taller than all of them.
