Promotional organization Golden Boy Promotions has won a tender to organize a fight for the regular WBA welterweight belt between Virgil Ortiz (19-0, 19 KOs) and Eimantas Stanionis (14-0, 9 KOs). The winning bid was $2.3 million.
The money will be divided in the ratio of 75 to 25 in favor of Stanionis. In April, the Lithuanian won the regular World Boxing Association title by defeating Rajab Butaev. Ortiz last fought in August.
The fight will take place in the first quarter of next year in the United States. The winner will become the official contender for the WBA welterweight title currently held by Errol Spence Jr.
