Roman Fury, brother of WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, will make his professional boxing debut at VIP Boxing in Doncaster, UK on October 8. Roman, 25, who has never boxed as an amateur, trains with Jimmy Harrington on the recommendation of Tyson and their father John. Roman lives near Tyson in Morecambe and trains with the Gypsy King and their other brother, Tommy.

“He is the future cruiserweight champion,” Tyson previously said about his brother.

Unlike Tyson and Tommy's undefeated younger brother, Roman, who debuts in a 4-round fight, is pleased that his boxing career begins without much publicity in the media: “I don't want to rush things. I don't want to box on the big nights just because my last name is Fury. You can't learn to run before you can walk, and VIP Boxing nights are perfect for me. Here I can learn the skills in the ring and develop.”

“I could compete as an amateur, but I grow up among professional boxers and learn this craft. Amateur fights would be a good experience, but I preferred to go straight to the pros and learn. These performances will make me better. I'm a late starter and I don't have time to spend two or three years on amateurs. I need to progress quickly. Tyson, Tommy, our dad and Jimmy said that I need to get into professional boxing right away.

At first, Roman was seriously involved in rugby, but then he decided to try his hand at boxing when his weight grew to 120 kg. Roman started training with Tyson during quarantine and his weight soon went down. Now Roman is going to become the ninth member of the Fury family who competes in professional boxing.

“I think about criticism, but it is connected with my name. People look at Tyson and think that everyone in our family is as good as he is. I have no amateur experience, so I want to do everything wisely. No matter what I do, I will be criticized, so I just have to keep going and do my job. It's not that I've never worn gloves. As a child, I was taught the basics of boxing. I have been boxing all my life and I don’t consider myself an absolute beginner who has just put on gloves,” Roman said.

“I want to fight for titles. For now, I am aiming for British titles and, like any boxer, I have the ambition to win a world title. I would even be happy to win regional English titles. It would be an honor for me to win them, because it is very, very honorable. Few boxers even win regional titles,” Roman Fury added.
