Former two-division world champion Shakur Stevenson (19-0, 9 KOs) won by unanimous decision over Robson Conceicao (17-2, 8 KOs) in the main event tonight in front of a record crowd of 10,107 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Stevenson went forward the whole fight on Conceicao, and got a knockdown in the fourth round. Stevenson was deducted a point for throwing Conceição to the floor in the ninth round. Judging scores: 117-109, 118-108 and 117-109.
On Thursday, Stevenson failed to meet the 130-pound super featherweight limit and was stripped of his WBC and WBO world titles, so only Conceição was eligible to win those belts.
“I had a tough week,” Stevenson said after the fight. — I killed myself to make weight. All I wanted was to get in the ring and do well. I did everything I could to make it happen."
“I'm just a dominant person. I fought against him, against the referee, I did everything I could to beat Conceicao as hard as possible. He held me the whole fight, but I did everything I could. It seemed to me that he constantly held me back every time I entered close combat. As soon as I was near him, he grabbed me and clinched, ”added Stevenson.
“I have to fight the champion. Me and Devin Haney, we could fight. After he meets Kambosos, let's arrange it... I'm ready to fight Lomachenko as well!" Stevenson stated.
"Shakur was great as always and he was up against tough fighter Robson Conceicao tonight," said promoter Bob Arum. “Shakura has a lot of great fights in the lightweight division. The crowd in Newark was impressive and we look forward to many more great fights in this arena."
