On August 6, in Fort Worth, Texas, an interesting welterweight fight will take place between Virgil Ortiz (18-0, 18 KOs) and European champion David Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs).
For the 24-year-old American, this will be a return to the ring after a year-long hiatus, and it will be the longest break between performances in his professional career. Avanesyan, who knocked out Oscari Metz in March, has spent his last three fights in the UK.
A few months ago, Ortiz and Avanesyan were nominated to compete for the world title held by Errol Spence Jr. However, it is not yet known whether this fight will actually have the status of an eliminator.
