Today it was officially announced that on April 30 in Las Vegas boxing fans will have a very promising unification fight in the super featherweight division: the fight of the WBO champion Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs) with WBC champion Oscar Valdez (30-0, 23 KOs).

Rio 2016 Olympic champion 24-year-old Stevenson is a candidate for the future leader of American boxing, which he confirmed in his last fight, defeating WBO champion Jamel Herring in October last year. Previously, Shakur was also, in particular, the World Pro Featherweight Champion and the 2014 World Youth Amateur Champion in 2014.

Stevenson's opponent, 31-year-old Mexican Valdes, is still an undefeated, experienced champion who has also been quite successful in the amateur ring. He has, among other things, bronze at the World Championships in Milan in 2009 and gold at the Youth World Championships in 2008 in Guadalajara. As a professional, he was the WBO featherweight champion in 2016-2019, and in February 2021 won the WBC super featherweight belt by knocking out Miguel Berchelt. However, in September, Valdez had a very difficult fight with Robson Conceição, and although he won on points, many considered the verdict of the judges to be moot.

Stevenson-Valdez is definitely a fight with a lot of potential and could turn into a classic US-Mexican battle that will see a new superstar emerge.
