Golovkin vs Murata is postponed

Scheduled for December 29, the unification fight for the WBA and IBF middleweight belts of Gennady Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) and Ryota Murata (16-2, 3 KOs) will be carried over to the next year.

The reason for this decision is the closure of the borders of Japan, where this duel was supposed to take place. The Japanese authorities have introduced new restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. A new date for the battle has not yet been set.

“I am deeply disappointed that the fight in Japan has been postponed, but public health and safety should always be a priority. I look forward to the possibility of an early return to the ring in the fight against Ryota,” Golovkin tweeted.

GGG defeated Kamil Sheremeta in his previous fight in December 2020. Murata entered the ring for the last time in December 2019, having defeated Stephen Butler.
