Fury's father: 'It's not Joshua's fault, it's his corner'

Poorly chosen tactics and a lack of proper response from trainer Rob McCracken were, according to John Fury, the main reasons for Anthony Joshua's (24-2, 21 KOs) loss to Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs).

"Usyk is a very awkward fighter and Joshua has definitely never fought someone like this before. In my opinion, he should have used the tactics of Derek Chisora, who did much better against Usyk than AJ," Tyson Fury's father told BT Sport. "I think if he had used his weight better and been sharper, this fight would have worked out better for him.

"AJ may have lost too much weight, but he should have sat on Usyk and pressured him constantly, not letting him move. However, if your plan isn't working, the role of the corner is to change it, but nothing like that happened here. In the eighth round, he was still told to be smart, box behind a left straight. And that doesn't work with technicians like Usyk. Joshua was playing Usyk's game from the very beginning. Didn't even try to change anything - blame the angle! Sorry AJ, blame the corner, they didn't use their brains at all to help him out of this bad situation!" added "Big" John.

According to the contract for Saturday's fight, Joshua is entitled to a rematch with Usyk after the loss. Their rematch will probably take place in February or March again in the UK.
