Diaz loses title on scales, Rakhimov within the limit

Joseph Diaz Jr. (31-1, 15 KOs) failed to meet the super featherweight limit at the official weigh-in ceremony before the fight against Shavkat Rakhimov (15-0, 12 KOs). The Russian had no problem making weight. The bet in the fight was the Diaz IBF belt, but the American lost his title at the weigh-in, and only his opponent can win it. Diaz will also lose $100,000 of his half-million purse for the overweight.

Diaz stepped onto the California State Athletic Commission's scales with a weight of 133.6 lbs, which is about 3.5 lbs more than the legal limit for the super featherweight. Rakhimov's official weight was 129.8 pounds.
