Beltran misses weight, title at stake only for Commey

Ray Beltran (36-8-1, 22 KOs) failed to make the lightweight limit at the official weigh-in ceremony before the night of boxing in Temecula, where he will fight today with Richard Commey (28-2, 25 KOs). The bout is the first defense of IBF belt for Commey. Commey was 134¼, Beltran was 136¾.

Beltran was overweight by 2 pounds, but he said that further weight loss will be dangerous for his health and affect his form. Both teams agreed that the Mexican will be punished by a fine of 20 thousand dollars, which is 10% of his purse. Now Commey will earn 370 thousand dollars for the fight, and Beltran - 180,000 dollars.

If Commey defeats the Mexican, in the fall he may meet with the best in the duel between Teofimo Lopez and Masayoshi Nakatani. This fight will take place on July 19th.
