Former four-time world champion in three weight categories and Olympic golden medalist Yuriorkis Gamboa (29-2, 17 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over the two-time world title contender Miguel Beltran Jr. (33 7, 22 KOs) after ten rounds at lightweights on Saturday night at the arena in the Convention center in Miami, Florida.
It seemed that this could turn out to be a quick night, when Gamboa sent Beltran to the floor at the end of the first round, but in the end, the tought Beltran forced Gamboa to go full distance. The scores were 99-90, 98-91 and 100-89.
At the same evening the former three-time world champion in two weight categories, Juan “Juanma” Lopez (36-6, 32 KOs) scored a decisive decision in ten rounds over Cristiano Mino (19-3, 12 KOs). Juanma, who went to battle with a thick beard, sent Mino twice to the floor in the third. Mino fell again in the fourth. Mino had some good moments when he hurt Juanma in the fifth. Lopez scored his fourth knockdown this time to the body in the sixth. Mino was penalized one point for holding in the tenth. The judges' scores were 97-88, 96-89 and 96-89.
Now Juanma and Gamboa should meet in March.
