Interim WBC Middleweight Champion Carlos Adames (23-1, 18 KOs) stopped former unified champion Julian "J-Rock" Williams (28-4-1, 16 KOs) in the ninth round in the main event at the Armory Arena in Minneapolis. Adames actively led the fight and achieved a rather premature referee stoppage at 2:45 in the ninth round, much to the displeasure of the Williams team. At the time of the stoppage, Adames was leading on all three judges' cards: 80-72, 78-74 and 77-74. According to CompuBox statistics, the opponents landed roughly the same number of punches.

For Williams it was the first title defense, while for Rosario it was the first opportunity to challenge a championship belt. Before the fight, Williams was considered as a clear favorite, and bet on the victory of Rosario were taken at the rate of 1:30.
