Former lightweight champion Dejan Zlaticanin (23-2, 16 KO) sensationally lost in the second round to Mexican Roberto Ramirez (18-2-1, 13 KO) in the boxing evening in New York. Spectacular, but a short fight ended in the second round, when Ramirez managed to send Zlaticanin twice to the floor. Before the battle, some bookmakers had accepted bids on Ramirez as 10,000 to 1. In the loss Zlaticanin suffered both a broken nose and a broken jaw.
In the co-feature bout of the evening at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, “Mikey” Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) of Oxnard, California added another world title to his collection as he knocked out Dejan Zlaticanin (22-1, 15 KOs) of Montenegro to win the WBC lightweight title. Establishing the jab from the start Garcia countered Zlaticanin as he charged. Garcia continued to box behind the jab in the second as Zlaticanin stalked. A huge uppercut by Garcia followed by a right hand knocked Zlaticanin out cold. Referee Tony Weeks waved off the fight at 2:21 of the third round.
Former two-division world champion “Mikey” Garcia (35-0, 29 KOs) of Oxnard, California will look to add another world title as he returns to the ring against WBC lightweight champion Dejan Zlaticanin (22-0, 15 KOs) of Montenegro. Garcia and Zlaticanin will square off January 28th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas live on Showtime Championship Boxing.
