Kamaru Usman, the former UFC welterweight champion, does not consider Islam Makhachev the leader of the promotion's P4P rankings.
"I think Alex Pereira is the king of pound-for-pound because of how he knows how to fight. Not so much because of how he knows how to fight himself, but how he knows how to make his opponents fight the way he needs them to fight and how he knows how to deal with them. I like Islam and his abilities - I think he has more tools in his arsenal, but I believe Alex is the best fighter in the world regardless of weight class. I can't be biased because of my size, because there are a lot more men in the world who are more similar in size to me and Islam than Alex Pereira. But we have to give Alex credit for the way he destroys his opponents"
