Oscar De La Hoya Drops Bombshell on Davis-Garcia II: "Nobody Saw This Coming"

Ryan Garcia wants another shot at Gervonta Davis after their 2023 fight, but his promoter Oscar De La Hoya isn't sure it's a good idea. De La Hoya recently shared his thoughts on a potential ...

The two undefeated fighters met last year in a big cross-promotional event. Davis won by knocking out Garcia with a body shot in the seventh round. He had also dropped Garcia in the second. The fight was at a catchweight of 136lbs with a 10lbs rehydration limit.

After the loss, Garcia said the weight rules really hurt his performance. De La Hoya had told him not to take the fight with those conditions. But now, even without those rules, De La Hoya isn't confident about Garcia's chances.

In an interview on Club Shay Shay, De La Hoya said:

"I don't know. I just do not know. Tank is very skilful, he's a beast, he knows how to figure you out."

De La Hoya called Davis a star and praised his fighting style:

"One thing about Tank, which I love and this is why he's gonna be great, he fights. And when you fight, you're gonna get hit, and you might get knocked out. That's the beauty of Tank – he fights and that's why they love him."

Since their fight, both boxers have been busy. Davis got moved up to WBA Lightweight World Champion. He knocked out Frank Martin in his first defense. He's set to fight Lamont Roach Jr. in December for his second defense.

Garcia moved up to super-lightweight and beat WBC Champion Devin Haney. But Garcia came in overweight and couldn't win the belt. Things got worse when he tested positive for a banned substance twice. The result got changed to a no contest, and Garcia got banned for a year.

The boxing world loved seeing two unbeaten fighters risk their records in the first fight. It was a big hit at the box office. Garcia still really wants a rematch, but it looks like his own promoter isn't sure it's the best idea.
