Davis: 'I'm definitely the face of boxing'

“I am definitely the face of boxing. Absolutely fucking awesome! — declared Gervonta Davis after an early victory in the seventh round over Ryan Garcia Saturday in Las Vegas. “I didn’t think that ...

Davis also acknowledged that Garcia was his toughest opponent of his career: "Before the knockout, it was interesting."

“I don’t want to talk about Devin Haney now, I just enjoy the victory. I deserve it,” Davis said about his plans for the future.

“He caught me with a good punch,” Ryan Garcia admitted in turn. - I do not want to make excuses. He caught me with a good blow, and I just couldn't come to my senses, that's all. He caught me with a good blow to the body, made his way closer and caught me well. I couldn't breathe. I wanted to get up, but I just couldn't. I fought one of the best. Hopefully one day we can do it again."

Garcia also admitted that he felt "a little out of shape" but didn't justify himself with catchweight commitments and re-weighing on the day of the fight: "I signed the contract, so that's it." At the same time, Garcia added that he plans to move up to super lightweight: “I feel much better at 63 kg. I'm going to move up to super lightweight and fight the best."

Despite all the trash talk before the fight, Garcia said that after the loss, he only has great respect for Davis: “The tank is a great fighter. I take my hat off to him. We said a lot of shit, but in the end we love each other. It was an honor for me to share the same ring with such a great boxer, and I respect him very much."
