In the same evening WBA Light Heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (12-0, 10 KOs) defends his title against an official challenger Sullivan Barrera (21-1, 14 KOs) of Cuba. Barrera received an offer to fight Kovalev too, but agreed to meet Bivol for a smaller purse.
