Cormier: "Makhachev is a victim of expectations"

American mixed martial arts titlist Daniel Comrieux shared his thoughts on Islam Makhachev's win over Dustin Porier.

Makhachev made the second defense of his UFC lightweight title at UFC 302 on June 1, defeating Puryear with a choke hold.

"I think Islam did a good job. Look, Islam is a victim of expectations, isn't he? He finished Puryear, but even if he hadn't, he would have won 4-1 by rounds. And that's a pretty dominant performance.

Makhachev has been so good for so long that people are starting to say, "Oh, Dustin had some good moments." But really, Islam looked great. He showed that he can fight in the standup against a very dangerous puncher and is able to wear down his opponent when he needs to. I think Islam has excelled at that. But Islam is a victim of expectations because he's not Khabib. Khabib looked so dominant that you never saw him in trouble in the octagon. Everyone expects the same thing from Islam, but there are no one like Khabib anymore," Cormier told Xtra.
