Paul, a 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer, has become a hot topic in boxing circles. He lost his first true boxing test against Tommy Fury but bounced back with four wins. His latest fight against 58-year-old Mike Tyson drew massive attention.
Paul won a clear points decision after eight rounds against Tyson, who had postponed the initial fight date due to serious health concerns. The event broke viewership records and trended worldwide, though some critics called the main event underwhelming.
Floyd Mayweather, the 48-year-old boxing legend with a perfect 50-0 professional record, shared his thoughts on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When asked about Netflix's viewership for the Paul-Tyson fight, Mayweather said:
"Basically, when you're watching boxing for free, you can have hundreds of millions of views. But when you're watching Floyd Mayweather, you have to pay. I did pay-per-view numbers. Check the record."
Mayweather also commented on a potential fight with Jake Paul, stating:
"Easy. Too easy. At 48, too easy."
Mayweather retired professionally after his 2017 crossover fight with MMA superstar Conor McGregor but continues to participate in exhibition matches.
Paul fired back at Mayweather's comments on social media:
"You bum. Deji gave you a black eye in an event that had 4,000 people in it. Deji hahahah. I would knock you out in 2 rounds and you can't sniff Mike Tyson's toe."
Paul's jab refers to Mayweather's exhibition with YouTube star Deji, where Deji reportedly gave Mayweather a black eye.
While Paul made his name in boxing largely against former UFC fighters, Mayweather continues to star in exhibitions across the globe. A potential fight between the two seems unlikely at this point, with Mayweather probably not returning to pro ranks. However, if it did happen, the financial rewards would be substantial.
