Alvarez and Crawford will face off this September in Las Vegas. The Mexican star's WBC, WBA, and WBO super middleweight titles will be on the line. Crawford earned his shot at Canelo after winning the WBA light middleweight title against Israil Madrimov in August.
The fight got the green light after months of speculation. Riyadh Season's Turki Alalshikh played a major role in making it happen.
Arum, who has seen it all in boxing, didn't hold back when asked about the matchup. He told Fight Hub TV:
"I think Canelo wipes the floor with him."
The veteran promoter explained his reasoning:
"I love Crawford, I told you when Crawford was fighting Spence that Crawford would beat the hell out of him. But Canelo is a different proposition. It's an interesting fight, but I think there's only one winner. Canelo is used to fighting at a particular level and I don't think that Terence can hurt Canelo, but Canelo can hurt Terence."
Before the Crawford showdown, Canelo will face William Scull in May in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A win there will make him a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion. Alvarez previously held all four world titles at 168lbs but lost the IBF crown last summer. He chose to fight Edgar Berlanga Jr instead of mandatory challenger Scull.
The 34-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico, remains one of boxing's biggest stars. His clash with Crawford promises to be one of the year's most talked-about fights. We'll have to wait and see if Arum's bold prediction comes true when these two champions step into the ring.
