This year, 24-year-old Dubois successfully returned to the ring after losing to Joe Joyce with a serious injury to his left eye, scoring two early victories over Bogdan Dinu and Joe Cusumano. In the last bout, Dubois secured the interim WBA heavyweight title.

Since then, the WBA has abolished time zones, and Dubois has officially taken the number one spot in the rankings, having the opportunity to challenge the champion, who is currently undefeated American Trevor Brian. Dubois is set to return to the ring in early 2022.

“Daniel will be back for one of our first shows in 2022,” Warren promised. "This year he has done an impressive work on the mistakes and is now heading straight for the world title. The WBA is an obvious option for him. He's ranked #1 for winning the interim title, and we really want to have a fight with champion Brian."

“Success in the fight against Brian will allow Daniel to swing at the winner of the rematch Alexander Usyk - Anthony Joshua, possibly by the end of 2022. So there are some great battles ahead for Daniel, and 2022 will be a defining year for this young man, who, as I have always believed, was created to rise to the top."
