Bob Arum announced that Vasyl Lomachenko (15-2, 11 KOs) could soon be the official contender for the WBO lightweight world title. The Ukrainian will return to the ring on Saturday in New York, where he will cross gloves with Richard Commey (30-3, 27 KOs).

Lomachenko ranks first in the rating of the World Boxing Organization in the category up to 135 pounds. The world title of this organization was recently won George Kambosos (20-0, 10 KOs).

“Loma is number 1 in the WBC and WBO,” Arum told Sky Sports. "I think this fight will take place. Kambosos will conduct a voluntary defense, and then will be able to fight Lomachenko in Australia. I fought in Australia. This is a great place for boxing evenings. They have great fans who would welcome Lomachenko. I am optimistic that at the end of next year Loma will be able to compete for titles again."

The bet on Saturday's bout between Lomachenko and Commey will be the WBO intercontinental belt. For a boxer from Ukraine, this will be the second performance after last year's defeat at the hands of Teofimo Lopez.
